Woerden Castle is the most impressive monument in Woerden and the history of the castle goes back to over 600 years. All of these years it has been a safe haven to its visitors.
The castle was built in the beginning of the 15th century. The towers of the castle are connected through stone-paved corridors. At the end of the 15th century the castle was used as an official residence to the 'Baljuw van het Land van Woerden' (Bailiff of Woerden). It remained this function until the end of the 18th century. During the 19th century the castle temporarily served as a prison for men - and later also for women. After that, the castle was equipped to function as a Central Warehouse for military goods. It remained a Central Warehouse until the early 1980's.
In short: a unique and stunning venue with a large range of possibilities.
